LIFE IN AN INFORMAL SETTLEMENT
Life in an informal settlement is very hard. For example, there is only 1 public toilet and it stinks. Other people have their own private toilets but sadly I don't but I might get one if my dad gets his job.
Next is school. The walk to school is super long and I am always late. It does not matter because the teacher is either asleep or is drunk. We try to teach ourselves or call our parents and see if they can teach us. I have only a pencil case because my parents do not have much money and thank goodness I am an only child otherwise I would not even have one. I don't mind because my mom said she will take me to a closer school when it opens. My parents actually have a lot of money but not enough for a normal house. We only have a problem with school items because it is pretty expensive. I wish our school could have a sand pit because I love playing with sand. Also a new teacher cause this one we have now is a crazy person.
Next is at home. My house is built with iron. The rain gets in very easily and when it goes, the house looks flooded. Another thing about my house it that it does not have electricity but my mom and dad are going to get some which is going to be a big difference. I only have a blanket and a dirty pillow which is not even comfortable. Our food situation is actually very good. There is a shop right next to us and it has very yummy food and I enjoy it. We do have enough money for it because the food there is very cheap. One of the baked goods are only R9.
Last is where I play. The area is full of garbage and it's difficult to move around in there. There are big giant holes that I have fallen into but there are not much of them anymore. Me and all the other kids play a game called Tag. It is when you try to touch someone and them you must say tag. After you get tagged you must tag other people playing. It is very fun and I love it.
