Life in an informal settlements

LIFE IN AN INFORMAL SETTLEMENT  Life in an informal settlement is very hard. For example, there is only 1 public toilet and it stinks. Other people have their own private toilets but sadly I don't but I might get one if my dad gets his job. Next is school. The walk to school is super long and I am always late. It does not matter because the teacher is either asleep or is drunk. We try to teach ourselves or call our parents and see if they can teach us. I have only a pencil case because my parents do not have much money and thank goodness I am an only child otherwise I would not even have one. I don't mind because my mom said she will take me to a closer school when it opens. My parents actually have a lot of money but not enough for a normal house. We only have a problem with school items because it is pretty expensive. I wish our school could have a sand pit because I love playing with sand. I had the worst day ever at singing today! The singing inspector was at singing and his name is Raymond. He had the most dreadful attitude and he looked dreadful too. He wore knickerbockers and weird big stockings. He looked like a crazy man! We were at singing while some other kids were doing math in the other room. We were practicing and he called Benny and Charles first. I felt sorry for them. They sang a song called Pretty Polly and it was very embarrassing and what made it more embarrassing was that it was the only song they knew. They sang in different pitches and it was terrible. He called Jesse next and she sang so beautifully that I’m sure Mr R liked her. I was not sure what song she was singing but it was amazing. He called me, Iris and Armstrong. I was so scared that I started shaking, he called us mutes and shouted at us to make us sing.I felt so angry and just wanted to kick him in the shin but I couldn’t do anything because I was too scared.
